I've Got Spring Fever

Today in Maryland it was 70 degrees out! I was super excited. I wish this weather would stay here for good but I know that we still have a few more weeks until it does. The warmth brings out all of the earthy smells I forget about during the wintertime. Today conjured up memories of the spring and all the things I can't wait to do again.  

Things I like this week

These two pictures make me want to buy a Volkswagen van and take it cross country. 

I am a faithful reader of the Free People blog:0 ) I loved the lace dress in the picture. 

Apparently animal prints are in. I kind of like them!

I like this short video featuring Nadinoo's Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. Nadia Izruna is a British fashion designer that makes hand crafted clothing inspired by the early 1900s fashion. Click on the image to watch it. 

Check this out, this is a rainbow Eucalyptus tree! This actually exists!! It is the only species of eucalyptus that grows in the northern hemisphere and is normally grown for its pulpwood, used to create white paper. It looks the way it does because  the trees shed many patches of bark at different times throughout the year. As the patches are gone, the green inner bark is exposed, and as it matures it turns bluish, then orange, purple and maroon. So cool! Too bad it grows better in warm tropical places, other wise I would have one on my front lawn! 

Artwork Inspirations

Australian Artist, KIRRA JAMISON's work caught my eye this week.  I like the contrast of the delicately painted natural images against the dark background. It looks like the birds and trees are floating in a night time sky. 

Lena Wolff is another artist I found inspiring this week. Her works are inspired by  folk art,  fables, animism, early American craft traditions and the natural world. She uses narrative textile traditions to create quilt-like collages that are meant to be symbolic of traditional stories.

 Sebastiaan Bremer is a photographer from the Netherlands. He is known for painting and overlaying multiple images on top of his photographs. In these two pictures he manipulated them with photographic dyes applying thousands of tiny ink dots on top.

Crafts and Creations

I decided to try and make some driftwood wall hangings. I want to do more of this but I just need to go out and find driftwood. I'm just waiting for the warm weather so that I can collect some. 

Here is my take on it. I found this driftwood at the beach a long time ago. I knew I would use it one day!

Here is an Irish Song put to some spring images. Again all of the recordings my twin and I make are rough but it's still fun to create. 

 It's really windy out right now, which means the weather is changing back to winter. I guess we will have to wait a few more weeks until this warm weather  stays for good!  

Don't be a Valentine's day Scrooge

 Valentine's day is tomorrow! Valentines day can seem like it is just a money-making holiday but lets not let "them"  take our money and  still have a romantic night.  Let's be creative!  So here are my ideas for a Valentine's day date night.

You can make some Valentines day garland! 

to put around your Valentine's day fort that you could make out of sheets and blankets from around the house

And decorate arrows to put inside(or not I just really like them)  

Why not both make dinner together? Here is an easy baked macaroni recipe. 

Follow it up with some brownie heart cupcakes.

So what do you think? If you completely hate this idea you can just  go out to dinner and make your own card ; ) As long as you do something! Just promise that you won't be a Valentine's Day Scrooge!

I had such a blessed Valentine's Day!

I woke up to the most beautiful sunrise I've seen in a while. The whole world looked pink.

You can always melt my heart with Chocolate! 

and pink and yellow roses.
